Are YOU Weak In This Area Of Intelligence? Find Out By Taking a DMIT (Dermatoglyphic Multiple Intelligences Test).

Anyone that is weak in the logical Mathematical Intelligence find difficulties in logic, abstract, inductive and deductive reasoning and numbers. Discovery show that they are less capable in reasoning, recognition, scientific thinking and investigation and the ability to perform complex calculations.

You can improve in this area of intelligent by collapsing the limit that hold you back. How do you collapse them?  How can you collapse the belief table that have formed within your mind. The answer is to remove the legs that hold the table up! In other words, you have to challenge the evidences that support the limiting belief. Once you remove the legs, the belief will collapse!

Most chose to believe it! They chose to generalize every experience into supporting this belief. Go back and challenge all the “supporting evidence’ that kept reinforcing your belief. The fact that you could not understand multiplication did not mean that you were lousy at math. It could simply mean that you need extra efforts and the right learning mode and correct way to understand. Many parents i came across did the DMIT for their children, but they have no mean to teach their children to enhance their weaknessess because they themselves also believe in their ‘supporting evidence’.  There is also no such thing as lousy math genes, only not enough neuro-connections in your brain for this purpose. To improve you need to do more and more or practise it continually untill you have collapse the supporting evidence within you.

You often hear people complain that they are not smart as the other people. They say they have a slower brain, a less creative brain or one that just cannot absorb anything.  ‘If i am smarter, i would do a lot better in school’ is one of the most common excuses heard. Well, there are some students are just more intelligent than others. More intelligent students learn faster and produce better results. Fact, your intelligent is your responsibility. And of course,  if you are not intelligent, it is not your fault.

Scientist had discovered that a person’s intelligence can be trained and anyone can become more intelligent.  If you decide today that you want to increase your brain power, your intelligence, your memory and your ability to think, you can!  While i acknowledge that there are some people who are born gifted, most gifted people or geniuses were self-trained!

During my present journey with this ‘Dermatoglyphics Multiple Intelligence and Talents Test’,  i came across some students with high intelligences but their education results are so poor and yet some with lower intelligences but they do better at school. 

If You Are Lousy At Something……….Do More Of It

What is the implication? If you are lousy at maths, what should you do? That’s right! You have got to keep doing more and more maths! The reason you are lousy is because you do not have enough neuro-connections to allow you to understand and apply them. By doing more and more, it will become easier and easier! Your brain gets used to it as its creates new connections and thought patterns. The first time you tried ice-skating or roller balding, i bet it seemed really difficult to balance. After a few rounds, it became effortless! Your brain learn to balance.

This sounds really simple. Do more and you get better at something. True. But most students do not follow this basic principle. Ask yourself this, when you are lousy at something like history or maths, do you tend to do a lot more of it or do you do less? I bet the answer will be less. We tend to hate and avoid subjects we are lousy at, giving excuse that they are boring or that we are just not interested in that subject. At the same time, we tend to do more and more of what we are good at like playing computer games. That’s why we get better and better!.

If all of us have basically the same number of neurons, than what really sets students apart in terms of intelligence? What make one student smarter than the other? The answer is the number of connections there are between our neurons. These connections are called neuro-connections.

Twenty weeks after conception, (fingerprints ridges forming) our brain’s neurons begin making thousands of connections with one another. These connections determine our range of behaviours and therefore, our intelligence. They are like the ‘thought wires’ in a robot’s brain. If you are good in solving maths problems, you have probably developed very rich neuro-connections that allow you to analyse, process and solve maths problems. However, with these same set of connections, you may not be able to draw very well. Another student may be brilliant at drawing because he has the necessary thought connections that allow him to conceptualise and render the drawings. The more neuro-connections we have, the more intelligent we are in a particular area. Then, the most important question is what affects the number of neuro-connections we have? This is determined by how much you use your brain. Every time you see, hear or do something new or every time you think, your brain gets stimulated. This is when brain starts making more connections, making you more and more intelligent.

 Prefrontal lobe – has been found to play a part in impulse control, working memory, problem solving, socialization and spontaneity. It assists in planning, coordinating, controlling, and executing behaviour creating personality expression and moderating correct social behaviour. People who have damaged prefrontal lobe may experience problems with being unable to initiate action, attentiveness, ability to concentrate, behaviour disorders, difficulty in learning new information, lack of inhibition (appropriate social behaviour), lack of goal-direction and emotional ability with “Flat effect” (unemotional). 

Frontal lobe – logical thinking, computation process, analysis, reasoning and judgement, language production, handling of words and grammar and synthesis, imagination, concept and idea formation, creative thinking and visualization.

The Parietal lobe – is responsible for control activity, involved in reception and processing of sensory information from the body.

Parietal lobe damage:
Damage to the front part of the parietal lobe on one side causes numbness and impairs sensation on the opposite side of the body. Affected people have difficulty identifying a sensation’s location and type (pain, heat, cold or vibration). Damage to the back part of the parietal lobe causes right-left disorientation and problems with calculation and drawing. Damage to the right parietal lobe can cause aphasia – inability to perform simple skilled task, such as brushing the hair or dressing.

Temporal lobe – is responsible for the reception of auditory (hearing) input. For example, the right temporal lobe is responsible for musical appreciation, whilst the left hemisphere is responsible for the understanding of speech. Left temporal lesion results in impaired memory for verbal material. Right side lesion can result in recall of non-verbal material, such as music and drawing.

The Occipital lobe – is responsible for visual spatial processing and visual interpretation. For example the right occipital lobe will recognizes image/object and faces by sight. The left occipital lobe is responsible for recognition of words, sign and symbol and reading. Damage of occipital lobe will lead to discrimination of movement and color discrimination. And it also can cause word blindness with writing impairments (alexia & agraphia)

The theory of the structure and functions of the mind suggests that the two different sides of the brain control two different “modes” of thinking. It also suggests that each of us prefers one mode over the other. 

Right brain and left brain dominated people can also be categorized as divergent and convergent thinkers respectively.

A convergent thinker has a systematic approach and plays by the rules. He analyzes everything and reaches a logical conclusion. Thus, scientific and mathematical activities are more up his street.

Divergent thinkers, on the other hand, are creative and tend to throw the rules out of the window. They are artistic and always looking for ways to express themselves.

When It Comes To Academics

Left brain dorminated children do well at school, as they are more likely to respond to formal learning. They exhibit greater responsibility, are quite content to study by themselves and have greater concentration.

Right brain dominated children, on the other hand, are less likely to perform well academically. They prefer to study with company, cannot sit still for very long and are more responsive in informal settings.

Unfortunately, many children who have these gifts don’t receive much reinforcement for them in school. Many of these kids, in fact, end up being labeled “learning disabled” “ADD (attention deficit disorder,” or simply underachievers. when their unique ways of thinking and learning aren’t addressed by a heavily linguistic or logical – mathematical classroom.

“The good news is that the theory of multiple intelligence has grabbed the attention of many educators around the world, and hundreds of schools are currently using its philosophy to redesign the way it educates children. The bad news is that there are thousands of schools still out there that teach in the same old dull ways, through dry lectures, boring worksheets and textbooks”.

The challenge is to get this information out to many more parents, teachers, school administrators and others who work with children, so that each child has the opportunity to learn in ways harmonious with their unique minds.

The theory of multiple intelligences also has strong implications for adult learning and development. Many adults find themselves in a jobs that do not make optimal use of their most highly developed intelligences (for example, the highly – kinesthetic individual who is stuck in a linguistic or logical desk – job when he should be much happier in a job where they could move around, such as recreational leader, a forest ranger, or physical therapist). The theory of multiple intelligences gives adults a whole new way to look at their lives, examining potentials that they left behind in their childhood (such as love for art or drama) but now have the opportunity to develop through courses, hobbies, or other programs of self-development.

How to Teach or learn Anything 8 Different Ways

One of the most remarkable features of the theory of multiple intelligences is how it provides eight different potential pathways to learning. If having difficulty reaching a student in the more traditional linguistic or logical ways of instruction, the theory of multiple intelligences suggests several other ways in which the material might be presented to facilitate effective learning.

Whether a student, a kindergarden teacher, a graduate school instructor, or an adult learner seeking better ways of pursuing self – study on any subject of interest, the same basic guidance apply. Whatever you are learning, see how you might connect it with:-

  • words (linguistic intelligence)
  • numbers or logic (logical – mathematical intelligence)
  • pictures (spatial intelligence)
  • music (musical intelligence)
  • self – reflection (intrapersonal intelligence)
  • physical experience (bodily – kinesthetic intelligence)
  • social experience (interpersonal intelligence)
  • experience in the natural world (naturalist intelligence)

For example, if you are learning about law of supply and demand in economics, you might read about it (linguistic), study  mathematical formulas that express it (logical – mathematical), examine a graphic chart that illustrates the principle (spatial), observe the law in the natural world (naturalist) or in the human world of commerce (interpersonal).

You don’t have to learn something in all eight ways, just to see what the possibilities are, and then decide which particular pathways interest you the most, or seem to be the most effective learning tools. The theory of multiple intelligences is so intriguing because it expands our horizon of available learning tools beyond the conventional linguistic and logical methods used in most schools (e.g. lecture, textbooks, writing assignments, formulas, etc.).

What is intelligence?

“Intelligence is the ability to make finer distinction” Being able to get good grade in school and brand as a genius is not nesscessary a genius in financial intelligence. What it really meant is, when a person is good in learning in the classroom, he or she has a higher academic IQ intelligence.  Whilst, for some learning to play football, tennis or baseball quickly, these groups of people have higher Sports IQ intelligence.

Intelligence is when you can tell the differences between something. Those differences are called ‘distinctions’. The more you can tell the differences, then the more intelligent you are.

“Our school systems puts great importance upon Academic and Scholastic Intelligence. So when someone has a high IQ, they mean a high scholastic or academic IQ. The current IQ test measures primarily a person’sverbal IQ. Their ability to read and write. So techinically, a person with high IQ is someone who learns quickly by reading. It does not measure all of a person’s intelligence. So that IQ is not measure of a person’s artistic IQ, physical IQ or even their mathematical intelligence, which are all legitimate intelligences’s.”

Continuing on, everyone needs to find way to learn things that best suits their learning style. Nevertheless, you still need to learn to read. A person that is Sports Intelligence learn faster by doing rather than reading.

Academic intelligence, in many ways, has a problem in that he can read but cannot do. In some ways, he may find the real world a harder place to adapt than those who have Sports intelligence. If one learned of their inborn talents, all you need to is enhance your weaknesses intelligence. “Often people with high IQ’s do not do well in the real world.” Why is that?  Maybe because educators focus primarily on mental skills.

Schoolbook could never teach us…subjects and skills that are very important for success in the real world. All you need to find a way to make more distinctions faster, so you can learn faster…in a way that works best for you.
